Microsoft’s Edge web browser gaining popularity with new features

NEW DELHI

Microsoft Edge web browser is steadily gaining popularity.

The new web browser is now giving a tough competition to Mozilla Firefox in the global market share, mainly for desktop users.

At present, Microsoft Edge has 6.44 per cent market share among desktop users while Firefox is slightly ahead with 8.21 per cent share.

But, Google Chrome is still far ahead in the competition with 68.06 per cent market share.

With the aim to strengthen its presence, Microsoft has now started rolling out new features that will appeal to a lot of desktop users.

Officials at Microsoft claimed the Edge 83 will now have the ability to handle multiple profiles, and that too, automatically.

The Automatic Profile Switching tools will automatically detect a user trying to visit a site which he or she usually visits, and Microsoft Edge will prompt the user about the detection.

If the user’s respond is affirmative, Edge will make the switch automatically to the website.

All the profiles and their data will also be synchronized across devices — phone, laptop and tablet.

The developers of Microsoft Edge are optimistic that it will help users keep their work and personal data separately.

The feature will definitely have far reaching utility for the desktop users, the Microsoft officials claimed.

The new feature will help to separate multiple work profiles, and users can take care of different sets of responsibilities.

The automatic switching for profiles will arrive with Microsoft Edge 83, which is expected by mid-May.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Edge has already earned appreciation for building Chromium based web browser which is much lighter on the system than the Google Chrome.

A lot of users, who feel that the desktop devices are slowing down because of Google Chrome, may set up Microsoft Edge and also enjoy the new automatic features.
