After Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Assam has also started to show keen interest in wooing investments of global MNCs, who are trying to shift base out of China.

Hundreds of global MNCs, who had their manufacturing hub in China, are keen to move out amid the COVID19 pandemic.

Assam government has also requested New Delhi to suggest American, Japanese and Korean companies, which are planning to shift their production hub from China to India to choose Assam.

As many as 100 US companies are reportedly considering shifting manufacturing hubs to Uttar Pradesh.

Siddharth Nath Singh, Uttar Pradesh’s minister of MSME was recently engaged with the MNCs through a webinar.

Some of the MNCs which had expressed interest in shifting base to Uttar Pradesh were Lockheed Martin, Adobe, Honeywell, Boston Scientific, Cisco Systems UPS and FedEx.

Similarly, Haryana is also all out to woo investments amid the lockdown. The Haryana government on Wednesday began a three-day long webinar with potential investors.

Euphoric with the positive response that Uttar Pradesh and Haryana got from the global MNCs, Assam government has also requested New Delhi to convince the companies to invest in the state.

To woo these companies, Assam government is in touch with the officials of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Invest India.

Senior officials of Assam’s industry department said they have also contacted Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), US-India Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce to advise those companies to setup production facilities in Assam.

“Assam has strategic location, vast natural resources, robust industrial infrastructure and reliable connectivity,” Chandra Mohan Patowary, Assam’s industry minister, said.

Industries in Assam contribute about 40 per cent to the State GDP and provide direct employment to over four lakh people.
