Manohari gold tea catches Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attention

Manohari gold tea which recently fetched a whopping Rs 39,001 at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal intrigued.

This is the highest price any tea has fetched in any auction centre all over the world. Dispur as well as the tea industry were both overwhelmed by the feat.

After Sonowal came to know of the tea’s price, he asked a senior bureaucrat on Wednesday before leaving for Silchar if he could taste the golden brew.

Manohari gold tea is produced by the Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district.

After being informed of the Chief Minister’s request, the garden owner has agreed to hand over a sample to Sonowal. Interestingly, hails from Chabua constituency in Dibrugarh district. Manohari garden is also in the district.

Additional Chief Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Ravi Capoor hopes the record price fetched by Gold Special grade was a good sign for the Assam tea industry.

Excellent tea sold through the GTAC would encourage others to sell their tea through the centre. Recently the GTAC has become a sort of hub for specialty teas, informs a GTAC official.

Manohari gold tea is hand plucked of very delicate buds which looks like crystals of pure 24-carat gold. This gold brew has the potential to draw the attention of the entire world and help regain the lost glory of the entire tea industry
