Amazon to train weavers of northeast

Amazon has decided to train weavers and artisans from the eight northeast India states to sell their products online through its e-commerce platforms.

A study by Northeastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd  (NEDFi) found that because of the lack of digital knowledge, the weavers and artisans fail to sell their products only.

A workshop on growth of B2C exports was held in Guwahati recently, where Amazon India head in global sales Saurabh Malhotra highlighted how the global retail giant can help the weavers and artisans of northeast India to maximize their business.

The artisans and craftsmen were told how they can sell their products online, and that too, outside India. Malhotra gave an overview of the global e-marketplace, and educated the weavers and artisans on the documentation required to begin the business. He said the e-commerce market in India is growing at 31 per cent annually.
